This movie is based on the 'Ragging' at hostels. Only some Indians are aware of the number of suicides that happen in Hostels as a result of the trend called as 'Ragging'.
This brutal practice has become a ritual wherein students are beaten up, stripped, famished, tortured, paraded naked , injured and even raped by their so called seniors. Sadly, these very students - who undergo silently at the hands of their seniors - in turn, vent their frustrations by ragging their juniors in the following years.
Since victims of ragging find it embarrassing to report sexual abuse to their parents or others, most ragging related crimes go unreported. Thus, this brutal practice continues year after year and has claimed the lives and careers of immeasurable students. The film 'Hostel' is a appalling eye-opener about this wicked practice.
